Selma High sweeps Francis Marion on Senior Night

Selma High closed the basketball regular season with Senior night on Saturday.

Selma pulled off a sweep, winning 48-37 and 71-53 in the girls’ contest.

Five seniors were honored for the Saints: Traveon Rogers, Tyshawn Garner, Kamau Little, Romerit Nixon and Terrion Posey.

Marqwavis Davis led the Selma Saints with 13 points, Johnny Smith added 11.

On Friday night against R.C. Hatch, former Selma High Parade All-American and Auburn All-American Julius Robinson was honored. His jersey was hung in the gym.

“These honors are being constructed to signify the pride and accomplishment of Selma High School and its basketball programs,” Saints coach Ronald Lane said. “Our students need a physical representation of what’s been achieved here to visualize what can be achieved here. We are constantly working to find ways to recapture the aura and reputation of being one of the state’s most revered basketball teams.”

Selma girls 71, Francis Marion 53: The Lady Saints outscored Francis Marion 25-12 in the third quarter, turning a close contest into a rout.

Rodericka Parker scored 24 points and made four assists to lead the Lady Saints. Ta’sharri Grimes flirted with a quadruple-double, finishing with 14 points, 15 rebounds, eight steals and seven assists. Aaliyah Hatcher finished with 10 points and 12 assists.

Francis Marion jumped out to a 17-11 first quarter lead and led 23-15 in the second quarter. Parker, Grimes and Hatcher hit enough shots to keep Selma within distance. The Lady Rams led 28-25 at halftime.

Grimes, Hatcher and Shykeria Roller were honored before the girls’ game.

Both Selma teams advanced to the finals of the Area 5, Class 6 Tournament next Friday at home. They await the winner of both Stanhope-Elmore and Wetumpka semifinal tournament contests.
