LETTER TO THE EDITOR: City council needs better leadership

Dear Editor,

I took the time Tuesday night to attend the Selma City Council’s meeting regarding the proposed increase in sales tax.

I can say with great certainty that we are in trouble and should be seeking new representation across the board.

The councilmembers were smart enough not to raise the already unconscionable 10 percent sales tax we are currently paying.

That was the highlight of the meeting.

The lows were when half of the council seemed unprepared for a regularly scheduled meeting, as if this was the first time hearing about the meeting agenda.  Councilmembers seemed more concerned with their personal achievements.

We all need to vote when we get our next opportunity, and vote for people who are capable of doing the job, not just for people who want the prestige or title of councilman.
