Basketball Roundup: Ellwood moves up in rankings; Morgan, Meadowview, Selma win

Ellwood boys ranked No. 9 in rankings
The Ellwood Christian boys (6-5) moved up to No. 9 in the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s class 1A basketball rankings, which were released on Thursday. The most recent batch of rankings was the first since Christmas break and the first of 2017. The Eagles host Maplesville on Friday in their next game. Two other local teams were nominated for the rankings, but missed the cut. The Dallas County boys (10-4) were nominated in 5A and the Selma girls (16-1) in 6A.
Morgan Academy 48., Hooper 46 (Boys)
Morgan Academy rallied from a 10-point deficit to defeat Hooper Academy 48-46 on Tuesday night.
Sawyer Hopkins had a double-double with 10 points and 15 rebounds to lead the effort. Dione Allen joined him in double figures with 10 points. The Senators play at Monroe on Thursday in an area game.
Meadowview Christian 68, New Life 67 (Boys)
Meadowview Christian (7-3) rallied from an eight point deficit to stun New Life Christian 68-67 in double overtime Tuesday.
Justin McGuire scored 32 points and added 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 blocks to lead the effort. Kaymon McGuire chipped in 18 points and 8 rebounds for the Trojans. Meadowview hosts Victory-Millbrook Thursday evening.
Selma 72, Chilton County 53 (Boys)
James Anderson scored 17 of his 24 points in the second half as Selma avenged an area loss to Chilton County earlier this year with a 72-53 win Tuesday night.
Jeffery Huff Jr. had 19 points and Tommie Moore had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Selma hopes to keep control of the area Friday against Stanhope Elmore.
