The Selma Police Department is searching for a suspect involved in a Valentine’s Day shooting.

Joseph Mack, 62, was shot Sunday between 1 and 1:30 a.m. outside the Grown and Sexy Club on Washington Street. Mack was airlifted to a trauma center in Montgomery. His condition was stable, according to the Selma Police Department.

Investigators have video surveillance of the shooting and are looking for a suspect in connection with the case.

Club owner Anthony Fail said the video surveillance shows the suspect walking back and forth from around the corner of Alabama Avenue and Washington Street before the shooting occurred.

Authorities declined Monday to release the suspect’s name.

“He just came up and started shooting,” Fail said.

Fail said he heard about six to seven shots fired.

“Boom, boom, boom. Then it stopped then it started again. Boom, boom, boom,” he said.

Lt. Sam Miller with the Selma Police Department said having the security camera footage is helping with the investigation.

“It helps versus not having any video and having no idea but of word of mouth of who it might have been,” Miller said. “Now we got a video we can work a lead off of.”

A city ordinance passed in July 2015 requires all nightclubs to have surveillance cameras capable of recording and storing video for no less than 30 days.

The ordinance followed a rash of shootings and robberies in and around several nightclubs in Selma.

Last March, Taffine Berry and Tra Berry were shot outside a lounge located on the 1400 block of Marie Foster Street. Both victims were transported to a Montgomery Hospital. Taffine later died from her injuries. Police believe they were just innocent bystanders. No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting.

A few weeks later, 20-year-old Kendrick Latrell Webster and 22-year-old Alphonsia Lewis were arrested in connection with an Easter weekend shooting outside the Grown and Sexy Club.

Two women were shot, one inside the club and one outside, after Webster and Lewis allegedly opened fire after arguing with another man.

Both were arrested over the summer and charged with attempted murder and various other offenses.
