The Alabama Baseball Coaches Association announced its 2016 Hall of Fame Class and 2016 Distinguished Service Award recipient on Friday.

The Alabama Baseball Coaches Association announced its 2016 Hall of Fame Class and 2016 Distinguished Service Award recipient on Friday. 

One of the honorees was Joe Elliott, who will receive the distinguished service award. Elliott is the father of Frank Elliott, the baseball coach at Wallace Community College Selma.

Joe started coaching in 1961 when he was hired at Bibb County High School.

Over the last two decades, most of his work has been with American Legion.

He’s also assisted Frank by working as a scout and recruiter for Wallace.

“People may not know it but he won a couple of state championships in basketball as well,” Frank said. “I’m real proud of him and the things he’s accomplished.”

Also being inducted are Snead State Community College coach Gerry Ledbetter, former Ramsay High School coach Lawrence Logan and former Bibb County High School coach Darrell Hobson. The induction ceremony will take place Jan. 22 at 7 p.m. at the BJCC in Birmingham.
