Martin Middle School is hosting a softball tournament Sunday at the Valley Grande Sportsplex to raise funds for the school’s robotics and pre-engineering programs.

The tournament will start at 2 p.m. and includes three teams, which are made up of members of the Selma Police Department, Dallas County Sherriff’s Department and faculty members of Martin Middle School and Dallas County High School.

The tournament will be a round-robin and there will also be a home run competition held.

“Our robotics instructor, Mr. Gaylen Denson, has been looking for ways to raise money for his program and he thought about a softball tournament,” said Martin Middle School principal Paul Thomas.

While the tournament will be the main event, Thomas said there will be activities to keep the whole family busy.

A hayride and bouncy house will be set up for children. Concessions will also be sold.

“We are going to make this a family oriented event,” Thomas said. “We are going to have some kid friendly activities.”

There is no admission charge to get into the tournament.
