Defending state champion Dallas County will have to wait an extra day to take the court for the Alabama High School Athletic Association state basketball semifinals.

The AHSAA announced Tuesday that no state tournament games will be played Wednesday due to the threat of snow in the Birmingham area. The Birmingham National Weather Service has called for 2-4 inches of snow Wednesday, meaning traffic is expected to be an issue.

Due to the postponement, the AHSAA will split its games on Thursday between the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex — the original host of the tournament — and the Bill Harris Arena, which is located at the CrossPlex, a 750,000 multi-purpose athletic facility.

Dallas County’s boys game against Ramsay will be at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the CrossPlex. The girls 1A championship between Keith and Spring Garden will be held at 8:45 a.m. Friday at the BJCC.

None of the games scheduled for Saturday had to be adjusted, meaning if Dallas County makes the 5A state championship game it will still be played at 11 a.m. as originally planned at the BJCC.
