With the General Election being just around the corner, Secretary of State Jim Bennett reminded Alabama residents that Monday is the deadline to register to vote.

Registration forms to mail to the local board of registrars’ office, may be downloaded at www.alabamavotes.gov for eligible non-voters, or by visiting the office in person during normal business hours.

“Alabama has almost 3 million voters, but we would encourage even greater participation,” Bennett said. “Sometimes only a few votes can decide who wins or loses an election.”

Any voters that have moved since the last election are encouraged to update their addresses with registrars, because they may have been moved to another polling place.

Although used in the Primary, this will be the first Alabama General Election where the new voter ID law will be in effect.

Anyone that does not have a driver’s license, non-driver ID, or any other government or state issued photo identification, can get one for free at the board of registrars.

An ID can be received for any voter at any time, including on Election Day.

If a voter is required to vote a provisional ballot due to lack of a photo ID, the voter will have until the Friday following the election to get a photo ID and provide it to the board of registrars.

The application for an absentee ballot is Oct. 30. Applications can be obtained by contacting the Absentee Election manager.
