Time to get tickets for Sturdivant Hall’s annual Barbeque on the Green fundraising event is running out.
The fundraiser, which helps with the operational costs of Sturdivant Hall, will take place on the back lawn of the museum from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18.
“It’s a yearly event people look forward to,” said Sturdivant Hall board member Sandy Greene. “It’s just a fun time with good food, good fellowship.”
There will be a social hour from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m., and then dinner at 7 p.m.
The meal will be catered by Golden Ranch BBQ & Grill and will feature barbeque, coleslaw, potato salad, bread and a desert.
For the football fans interested in attending, the Auburn-Kansas State game will be shown on a big screen television throughout the event.
The game is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.
Greene said the event is important for the museum, because the proceeds go towards helping make repairs and any other expenses needed throughout the year.
She said keeping the museum in tip-top shape only helps Selma as a whole.
“It’s one of the attractions in Selma that tourists come to visit,” Greene said. “In order to keep the tour buses coming, we need to keep it in fine shape.”
Tickets for the event are $25 each and can be purchased at Sturdivant Hall, Butler-Truax Jewelers, the Selma-Dallas County Chamber of Commerce, Swift Drugs, from Sturdivant Hall board members, or by calling Sturdivant Hall at 872-5226.
A total of 490 people showed up for last year’s event. This year a total of 500 tickets were put up for sale, as organizers hoped to sell the most tickets they’ve ever sold.
