Area residents, especially children, will have the chance to meet and thank various law enforcement officials Friday as part of Local Heroes Day.
From 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., officials from the Selma Fire Department, Selma Police Department, Dallas County Sheriff’s Department and more will be at Walgreens with their rescue vehicles to meet and pose for pictures with members of the community.
All those who attend the event will be given one free 4×6 print of themselves with a hero, as well as receive 50 percent off magazine covers and a $4.99 photo value pack, filled with 5×7, 4×6 and wallet-sized photos.
“Mainly it’s an opportunity for the kids to have a chance to meet and greet the people that they look up to and honor, as well as have a good time,” store manager Chris Rudolph said. “Hopefully people will come out, enjoy their shopping experience and meet their heroes.”
Sheryl Smedley, executive director of the Selma-Dallas County Chamber of Commerce, said she was excited Rudolph approached her about Local Heroes Day.
“I think this is a great opportunity to show our appreciation for what all of our law enforcement officials do,” Smedley said. “They’re out there working 24/7, 365 days a year, and they’re putting their well-being on line each day. They mean a lot to us all.”
All those in attendance Friday will be on active duty, Rudolph said, so the number of officials may fluctuate at any given time. Also, the forecasters are calling for scattered thunderstorms throughout the day, which may effect the setup, as well.
“At Walgreens, we always try to do things in the neighborhood and in our local communities because it gives back to the local community so we just decided to do something to honor our local heroes,” Rudolph said.
Walgreens is located on the northeast corner of Broad Street and Highland Avenue.
