The Meadowview Christian School Lady Trojans got down on the scoreboard, but never got down mentally, as they fought back for a 6-5 comeback victory over the Sumter Academy Lady Eagles Thursday at home.
Elyse McIntyre, assistant softball coach for the Lady Trojans (2-4), said Meadowview never gave up.
“I think our main thing is that we didn’t give up, we didn’t settle, we didn’t become complacent,” Elyse said. “We kept giving it what we had and we fought back. That’s what we learned about ourselves today. We had to fight back and we did.”
The Lady Trojans were down 5-0 in the top of the sixth inning, but were able to get five runs and force extra innings.
Due to international tiebreaker rules, both teams were able to put a runner on second.
The Lady Trojans stopped the Lady Eagles in the top of the eight inning and took control.
Meadowview’s Lyndsey Patton bunted to move Katey McIntrye over to third base, then Claudia Kendrick got a hit that scored Katey from third and delivered the victory for the Lady Trojans.
The Lady Trojans will take the field again at home Monday, March 19 when they’ll play Southern Academy at 3:30 p.m.
