“Jackson went down early and McCovery stepped up and controlled it,” Harris said. “Then we went to our set, and that’s what helped us. We played good team ball, worked the offense and we got some good looks inside. Peeples and Caver did a good job in the post.”
Peeples led the Lady Saints with 17 points, 11 rebounds and two blocked shots, while Caver had 12 points, 11 rebounds and two blocks, and McCovery had six points.
Harris said his seniors played tough in their last game in Selma.
“My hats off to the girls,” Harris said. “They’ve done a good job since 2004 when we took over and this is our ninth straight trip to the regionals. My hat’s off to the seniors. They played their last game here in Selma, but they’ve done a good job for us as students and athletes.”
The win sends the Lady Saints to the Class 5A South Regional Tournament in Mobile at the University of South Alabama’s Mitchell Center.
Selma will play the No. 1 team in Class 5A Faith Academy (28-0) Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 3 p.m.
Harris said his team has a tough challenge ahead, but that’s to be expected in the playoffs.
“We’re going to keep rolling and we’re not going to look back,” Harris said. “I know we’ve got our work cut out for us and that’s the way it’s supposed to be this time of year here because the people who made it are the people that are tough down stretch.
“So we’re just going to focus on what we do and go down there and try to have a strong performance in the South Regional.”
