Lady Panthers

dominate Jemison

The Southside Lady Panthers got one step closer to hosting the area tournament with a dominant 50-20 win over area opponent Jemison on Friday.

Jason Bothwell, head coach of the Lady Panthers (11-6, 4-0), said his team got it going after a slow start to capture a key area victory.

“We got off to a slow start, but we picked it up toward the end of the game,” Bothwell said. “It was a good, quality area win to give us sole possession of first place in the area, which is good for what we’re trying to do as far as hosting (the area tournament).

“We’ve just got to continue to get better.”

After going ahead 9-4 to end the first quarter, the Lady Panthers pulled away with a strong second quarter performance, which included two three pointers from Tanisha Blevins, and took a 23-6 lead into halftime.

The third quarter brought more of the same, as Blevins opened the second half with a three and the Lady Panthers ended the quarter leading 37-10.

Southside hit seven shots from behind the arch, which included four from Blevins, two from Takari Nelson and one from Yasmine Mixson.

Blevins led Southside with 16 points, while Calvondrea Blackmon added 8 points for the Lady Panthers.

Shayna Robinson led Jemison with 8 points.
