It’s the season for barbecuing, and the Selma Emblem Club is ready to help you curb that craving.
“We’re doing a big sale,” club spokesperson Joyce Canada said. “The barbecue is excellent.”
The Selma Emblem Club’s annual barbecue will take place July 2 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Canada said the meat will be sold by the pound or by the plate, with each option costing $8.
“The Emblem Club keeps this money in Dallas County and in Selma,” Canada said.
The money goes to local charitable efforts: creating two or three scholarships for high school seniors; sponsoring someone in the Selma Cancer Walk; paying utilities and doing Christmas baskets for needy families; and supporting Warren Manor.
Canada said Selma Emblem Club members hope to raise $10,000. That might seem like an insurmountable goal, but, like most things, the secret is in the sauce.
“That is something that is well-known in this town, that Don Rose makes his secret sauce for the barbecue,” Canada said, adding that Rose puts the sauce on the side so people can add as much as they want.
The sale will be set up at Elks Lodge on Highway 80. People who want to enjoy a plate will get meat, coleslaw, chips, pickles, bread and tea, and they are welcome to eat inside the Elks Lodge from 11 to 2.
