Walks, errors prove costly for Selma

The Selma High softball team struggled all night to find the strike zone and it cost them in an 18-1 loss to Brewbaker Technical School.
The Lady Saints walked seven batters as Brew Tech built an early 8-0 lead in the first two innings.
“I don’t know what to say,” Saints head coach Morgan Boyd said. “It’s tough when you can’t find the strike zone. One of the keys to defense is pitching and we are not being as consistent as we were earlier in the year. We are trying to develop some young pitching, so we can be stronger in the end.”
Selma got their only run in the bottom of the second when Ashley Allen tripled to lead off the inning and scored just two pitches later on a wild pitch.
Now, with just a couple of games left in the season, the Lady Saints must focus on working hard to end the season on a positive note.
“We are going to go out there and have fun and work hard,” Boyd said. “We have got to continue to work hard at practice and during the games for the rest of the year.”
While Selma will try to remain positive for the rest of the year, the Lady Saints must also continue to build for the future.
“We are trying to keep working in young talent,” Boyd said.
“We want to get the girls experience but also keep them interested. It’s kind of one of those things where it’s out of the frying pan into the fire.
“We are going to keep working with them and developing them.”
