Throughout the night the Lady Saint defense anticipated each move the Lady Jags would make. Selma scored the first 13 points of the game before the Lady Jags could find the basket with 1:30 left in the first period.

Lady Saints coach Anthony Harris said he was pleased with his team’s overall effort.

“Overall I was happy with the game,” he said. “We came out a little sluggish in the first half, but they came around.”

The second half was more of the same. The Lady Saints controlled the ball on offense and kept the Lady Jags out of the paint and off balance for the rest of the game. In the fourth period, the Lady Saints locked down and didn’t allow a single point in the final eight minutes.

Kendra McCovery lead the Lady Saints with 12 points, followed by Brianna Richardson with 11. Jasmine Peeples added 10 points and 13 rebounds.

The Lady Saints (26-3) will now face Demopolis, at 5:30 p.m. Monday.

fHarris said he would like to see his team come out fast again.

“This is the playoffs,” he said. “It’s time to get ready to play. You have to be ready every game now.”
