Those in need in the Selmont area will have an opportunity to receive clothes, toys and other items Saturday when a truck from a mission in Birmingham brings down goods to the community.

Dallas County Commissioner Connell Towns said the truck from Oak Mountain Missions in Birmingham would pull up about 9 a.m. at the community tornado shelter in Selmont. All are welcome.

Towns said the effort evolved out of cooperation with U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell’s, whose 7th District office in Selma helped find the source and bring the goods to Selmont.

This is not the first time an effort such as this has benefitted Dallas County residents.

Towns said a few years ago, then-Congressman Artur Davis’ office arranged a similar effort through Darrio Melton, who worked in the local office.

“When Terri took office, I talked to Carolyn Powell and asked if we could get another truckload, and it worked out,” Towns said.
