Adrian Lynette Chalona Kendall

Adrian Lynette Chalona Kendall, age 73, of Selma, Alabama, died Monday, August 9, 2010, at Vaughan Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Kendall was a native of New Orleans, Louisiana and the daughter of Alice Erminie Rougelot and Marcus Joachim Chalona.

She attended St. Joseph’s Academy and was a graduate of Loyola School of Nursing, where she received her R.N. degree, and Newcomb College, where she received her B.S.N.

After graduation, she worked at Tulane University, where she participated in groundbreaking research in the field of genetics.

She married William Quinton Kendall, of Selma, and moved to Selma in 1967.

She worked as an RN and education coordinator for the UAB Family Practice clinic for 28 years and also as an RN in the old Vaughan Hospital emergency room for 9 of those

years. Mrs. Kendall was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church where she served on the vestry and in the choir.

She was active in community events and was an avid gardener, reader, cook, traveler, bridge and tennis player.

In 2008, she helped her tennis team win second place honors at the Southern USTA State Tennis Championship and was awarded the Selma “Ladies Player of the Year” award. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and her sisters Marcia Latapie and Justine Chalona.

She is survived by her three children, Chalon Lunceford, Laura Lewis, and Hunter Dempsey; by eight grandchildren; and by her two brothers, Marcus Joachim Chalona, Jr. and Michael Andre Chalona.

Services are scheduled for 11:00, Saturday, August 14th at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, the Rev. David B. Powell, Rector, and the Rev. Elizabeth J. Powell, Assoc. Rector, presiding.

Burial will follow in the columbarium at the church, with a reception afterwards.
