Mary Ella Briggs, age 61, of Selma, AL, passed away April 13, 2010.
She was preceded in death by her father, John Briggs, mother, Era Bell Briggs; step-mother, Celeste Briggs, grandmothers, Miss Abbie Briggs and Claudie Bell Foster and
friends, Gary Wilson, David Curtis and Vickie Stokes.
Surviving are her brother, John E. (Rose) Briggs, III; nephews, Brian (Vanessa) Briggs and Zachary Briggs; cousin, Phyllis (John) Strickland; best friend, Gail Jordan; friend, Joan (Jim) Byrum and pets, Bella and Norma Jean.
Graveside services will be Friday, April 16, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in Braggs Cemetery with Rev. Elwood Sims officiating and Selma Funeral Home directing.
Visitation will be from 6-8:00 p.m., Thursday, April 15, 2010 at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be John Strickland, III, Mark Jordan, Jim Byrum, Rodney Simmons, Barry Lassiter, John Strickland, Jr., Jarred Kato and Patrick Hayes, Jr.
Honorary pallbearers will be Brian Briggs, Zac Briggs, Bill Jordan, Dr. Park Chittom, Mack Jordan, Skip Curtis, Jamie Eiland, Oscar Pettway, Henrique Aquiar, Patrick “Monty” Hayes, Matthew Hayes and Buddy Farish.
Mary resided in Calera, AL, but was originally from Selma. In 1985 the Selma community came together to raise funds for a heart transplant for her.
She received her heart on September 26, 1985.
On this date her new life began.
