Mr. Davis D. Garrison, Jr., 84, of Johnson City, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, March 19, 2010 at the Johnson City Medical Center.
Mr. Garrison was born in Birmingham, AL on March 23,1925.
He was the son of the late Davis D. and Bernice E. Garrison.
He was the CO-owner of East Tennessee Tile and Marble and served on the board of several trade organizations.
Mr. Garrison was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Garrison learned to fly at the age of 15.
He joined the Army Air Corp in March 1943.
He flew B-17’s with the 483rd Bomb Group in Sterparone, Italy in early 1945.
After the war, he was based in Pisa, Italy, flying troops to Casa Blanca as part of the “Homebound Airlines”.
He was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association, and he built and flew two experimental aircraft.
Mr. Garrison was preceded in death by his wife, Dottie Garrison in 2000.
Survivors include: His sons, Davis D. Garrison, III and his wife Marsha, Steve Garrison and his wife Carol, all of Johnson City; two daughters, Judy Palmer of Johnson City and Janet Murphy and her husband Ted of Brentwood, TN; five grandchildren, Thomas Garrison, Alex Garrison and Jennifer Palmer of Johnson City, Natalie and Julianne Murphy of Brentwood; a brother, John E. Garrison and his wife Helen of Austin, TX; a sister, Bernice Snoll and her husband Joe of Lake Placid, FL; a niece and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mr. Davis D. Garrison will be conducted at 10 AM Tuesday, March 23, 2010 in the First Presbyterian Church.
Rev. Louis Imsande will officiate.
The graveside committal service will follow in the Monte Vista Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers will be: Thomas Garrison, Alex Garrison, Ted Murphy, Darrell Corpening, Skip Burleson and Allen Burleson.
The Boone Dam Post # 4933 and the Tennessee National Guard will accord military honors.
The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 PM at First Presbyterian Church.
