SELMA — Selma artist Edna Story became enamored with the redesign of the First Cahawba Bank building on North Broad Street.

“I like the Greek revival architecture with the columns,” said Story, a member of the Selma Art Guild for 30 years. “I knew that it was new and hadn’t been painted before. I wanted to paint Sturdivant Hall, but everybody paints it.”

So when Story donated the artwork to the bank, First Cahawba President and CEO Kelly Jones was excited.

“Absolutely,” he said. “We have a place picked out to hang it in our board room between two windows.”

The bank opened in 2007; the remodeling was completed April 20, 2009.

Story’s husband, Herbert, was the first mayor of Valley Grande.
