Six candidates seeking votes for the June 3 primary will receive support from the Dallas County chapter of the Alabama New South Coalition.
During a recent meeting and screening process, the coalition interviewed candidates vying for all six seats in the county election.
The endorsements came after thought and debate among the coalition&8217;s members.
The ANSC has decided to endorse Tanya Thomas for tax assessor and Tanika Wagner for tax collector.
For the County Commission seats, endorsements went to Connell Towns for District 1, Ezekiel Pettway for District 2, Curtis Williams for District 3 and Clifford Hunter for District 4.
Hunter, Towns and Williams are the incumbents for their races.
Also present at the meeting were Frances Hughes, incumbent tax assessor; Tammy King, incumbent tax collector; Roy Moore, incumbent District 2 commissioner; and Larry Nickels, running for District 4.
Candidates expressed their concern about issues in the community in tandem with discussing their platforms.
Wagner talked about the need to educate voters and became tearful when recounting an incident while she was campaigning recently.
Towns noted the need for senior citizens&8217; programs and the need for government leaders in Selma and Dallas County to work together for a more efficient system for polling places.
