Ms. Lula Sharpe Parrish

Ms. Lula Sharpe Parrish, 85, a resident of Selma, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday,

at Brown Chapel A.M.E. church with the Rev. James Jackson officiating. Burial followed in Fairlawn Memory Garden with J. H. Williams & Sons Funeral Home directing.

Visitation and fellowship was held at 10 a.m., Saturday at the church.

Survivors include daughters Phyllis (Alexander) Alston, Tuskegee, and Joyce P. O’Neal of Selma; son Raymond (Charlana) Parker, Houston; sisters L V. Mitchell, Nashville, Tenn., and Clementine Gillum, Cleveland; grandchildren Vaughn P. O’Neal, Jarrell, Texas, Christian Parker, Rashon Jefferson, Jacorey Randolph of Houston; great-grandson Bryant O’Neal of Houston;a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; and a special caregiver, Letha Patterson.

Ms. Amy Lou Stallworth Lawrence

Lowndes &045; Ms. Amy Lou Stallworth Lawrence died on Friday, Dec. 28, 2007.

Funeral Services were held on Saturday at 12 noonat Shiloh Baptist Church, Gordonville with the Rev. Gary Crum, officiating. Interment was held at the Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery with Bell Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include her children, Carl Sr. (Annie Ruth) Lawrence of Chicago, Ill., Jeraldine Smith of Birmingham, Ala. Wilma (Joe) Thomas of Selma, Ala., Willie James, Jr. (Barbara) Lawrence of Chicago, Ill., Amos (Ella) Lawrence of Chicago, Ill., Christine (James) Peoples of Detroit, Mich., Clarice (Thomas) Downs of Dixmoor, Ill., Gloria (Henry) Ketton of Selma, Eudora (Willie George) Lee of Montgomery, Linda (Ceodis) Baker of White Hall, and Brenda (Samuel) Martin of Montgomery; stepdaughter, Celia (Jesse) Childress of Detroit, Mich.; daughter-in-law, Pauline Lawrence, Chicago, Ill.; special grandson, Bryant Lawrence; sisters, Catherine Carnes of Cleveland, Ohio and Lydia (Tory) Kidd of Mobile; sisters-in-law, Myrtle Stallworth and Aroneta Stallworth of Mobile, Lexanna (King) Stewart of Burkeville, Maggie Leftridge of Tennessee, Reather Nell Lawrence of Collirene; brother-in-law, Archie (Lena) Lawrence of Fairhope; 38 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mr. Joseph Edward McGee

Mr. Joseph Edward McGee, age 76, a resident of Selma, Ala., passed away Jan. 3, 2008.

Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 4, 2008, at Pineview Memory Gardens with the Rev. Edward Eaton officiating and Selma Funeral Home directing.

Surviving are his wife, Geraldine McGee; son, Rodger McGee; daughter, Belinda (Michael) Middlebrooks; sister, Iris Scott; grandchild, Edward Middlebrooks and best friends, Jill and Bo.

Mr. McGee worked at R. L. Zeigler’s for 45 years and Miller Lumber co. for 7 years.

Mr. Andrew Thomas, 61, died Jan. 2. At Lighthouse Healthcare.

Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date by Miller Funeral Services Inc.

Mr. Percy Harris

MARION &045; Mr. Percy Harris, 65, died Dec. 30, 2007, at DCH Hospital, Tuscaloosa.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Marion Baptist Academy, officiated by the Rev. Larry Jackson. The burial took place in Daniel cemetery directed by Miller Funeral Services.

Survivors include three brothers, Henry (Callie Holmes, Hosea (Barbara) Rutledge, and Eddie (Annie) Rutledge; five sisters, Alice Deyambert, Fannie Bell Harris, Lillian Collins, Bobbie (Cleophus) Tate, and Viola Harris Hill; 32 nieces and nephews; and a host of great nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. James Smith

minter &045; Mr. James Smith, 66, died Dec. 28, 2007, at his home.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Friendship Baptist Church, officiated by David Perry. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Christinna Smith; two sons, Everett ( Anette) Smith, and Steven (Veronika) Smith; a daughter, Gwendolyn (Aurthur) Price; four brothers, Willie (Mary) Smith, Lee Earnest Smith Jr., Roosevelt Smith, and J.D. (Joann) Smith; five sisters, Rosie Mae Davis, Alberta Smith, Shirley Jackson, Delores Smith, and Viola Moses; three grandchildren; one sister-in-law;, two daughters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; and eight sisters-in-law.

Pallbearers were family and friends.

Mrs. Leonice Pharr

Voyles Hughes

Leonice Pharr Voyles Hughes, 91, of Selma died Friday, Jan. 4, 2008, at a local nursing home.

Services will be at the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. Russell Morrow and the Rev. Glenn Smith officiating, and Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Monday.

Mrs. Hughes was preceded in death by her husbands, Frank Voyles and Joseph Robert Hughes.

She is survived by her devoted nieces and nephews, Medford and Dorothy Pharr, Shirley Cochran, Roni and Talley Smith, Raymond and Isabell Smith, Logan and Taylor Smith, Ricky Farmer,Rita and Ralph King, Jared and Kaylee King; other relatives include Connie Silverstein; her children, Phillip and Robin, Judy Estes, Dennis Estes, Joe Estes, and Martha Jean Estes; and a devoted friend and neighbor, James Coleman.

Mrs. Hughes was a member of the City Garden Club for over 32 years. She was also a member of The First Christian Church and very active in the women’s fellowship.

Active Pallbearers will be Larry Alexander, Jimmy McMillian, Randy McMillian, Ronald Pharr, Thomas Coxwell, and Waymon Qualles.

Mr. Jo Ellen Holt

McDowell

Jo Ellen Holt McDowell, 74, a resident of Selma, passed away Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008.

Mrs. McDowell was preceded in death by her son Dewayne Hinson.

Surviving are her husband, Robert McDowell; sons, David McDowell, Robert (Francis) McDowell and Kelly (April) McDowell; brothers, Charles Holt and Lewis Holt; grandchildren, Kim (Bob) Petit, Thomas McDowell, Karen McDowell, Eric McDowell, Beth McDowell, Cody McDowell, Taylor McDowell and Autumn McDowell; great grandchildren, Sam McDowell, Tyler Mc Dowell, Caden McDowell, Sean McDowell, and Shana McDowell.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 7, 2008, in the chapel of Selma Funeral Home with Arch Bishop Charles Jones officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home

from 2 to 4 p.m., today
