Two Dallas County residents died as a result of a collision with a train on Cahaba Road where the vehicle ignited early Friday morning in the crash.
Authorities said the crash occurred at approximately 12:48 a.m. Friday. The S-10 Chevrolet pickup, driven by Jakob Randall Wright apparently never slowed before hitting the 19th car of the train. Police reported the train was traveling at approximately five miles per hour through the intersection.
Felecia Vonceal, 26, of Jones, a passenger in the eastbound vehicle, died at the scene as a result of the crash and the blaze. Wright, 30, was transported to a Birmingham hospital where he later died from injuries sustained in the accident, police said.
Lt. David Evans of the Selma Police Department said authorities met Friday with representatives from M&B Railroad, who reported the lighted signal was flashing at the time of the accident. There is no crossing gate at the Cahaba Road crossing.
Mayor James Perkins Jr. said there would be &8220;a full investigation&8221; regarding the crash.
