Leaving a winning program is never an easy thing to do, but in some cases it is the best thing to do. That’s the way former Dallas County High School football coach Rick Bush saw it.

Bush who led the Hornets to back-to-back playoff appearances resigned from his post of head football coach on Tuesday after posting a 14-8 overall record.

Bush will take on the role of a defensive assistant at Northridge High School in Tuscaloosa, a town that he’s very familiar with.

Bush admits that moving closer to he and his wife’s families was an opportunity that he couldn’t pass up.

With Bush’s unexpected departure, Jones and the Dallas County School board are trying to fill three vacant coaching slots before their respective seasons begin. As for the football void, the first day to officially practice as a team is August 1.
