Hey, Hey what do you say. The Central Christian Academy Warriors pick up the win over Warrior Academy 25-22 in overtime Thursday night, and clinch home field advantage in the first round of the play-offs.
It looked as if the Warriors would drop their first region game of the year going into the fourth quarter, but that is when the defense stepped up their play.
On Central Christian’s second series of the game they found themselves pinned on their own five yard line. After losing two yards on their first to downs C.K. Poe dropped back to pass, and was dropped in the end zone for the safety giving the Braves the 2-0 lead.
With 4:23 left to play in the first half Simuel Walker took the kick off, and rumbled 90 yards down the field to put Central Christian within two points of tying the game. The two point conversion attempt was good, and the score was tied at 8-8.
With three minutes left in the game Central got a break when Warrior fumbled, and Patrick Thomas recovered the ball for CCA. The Warriors drove the ball down to the four yard line where Simuel Walker took it in for the tying touchdown with 1:25 left to play.
With :42 seconds left to play in the game C.A. Poe intercepted a Warrior pass, and the Warriors got one more chance to finish the game without overtime. They marched it down to the Warrior 23 yard line, and attempted the field goal with :04 seconds left in the game, but the attempt was no good, and the game went to overtime.
In the first overtime Warrior fumbled on third and nine from the nine yard line, and C.A. Poe recovered the ball. Central took their first possession of the overtime period, and moved the ball down to the four yard line. Then C.A. Poe kicked the field goal to give the Warriors the win 25-22.
The Warrior take on Shelby next Friday night in Montevallo at 7:30 for the region championship.
