Baseball had its turn and now softball players will get a chance to take part in a free camp being hosted by the Selma Parks and Recreation Department and All in Sports Outreach.

The free camp will take place Dec. 12 at Bloch Park from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. and will be for girls ages 9 to 18 years old.

“We are going to focus on a lot of hitting, fielding and pitching and catching,” said city baseball director Jamie Tellier.

Cassie Daniels, a former All-American pitcher at Auburn Montgomery will be at the camp working with the pitchers.

In October, the recreation department and All in Sports Outreach held a baseball camp. A total of 110 players took part in that camp and Tellier is hoping for another big crowd for the softball camp.

Tellier said softball is a growing sport in Selma and that hosting camps is a way to keep the sport growing.

“Doing things like this, putting camps together where these kids can get better, those are the things that I think are going to draw people back to it,” Tellier said.

Registration will start at 9 a.m.. but is also being held online at  allinsportsoutreach.org. For more information, contact the Selma Parks and Recreation Department at 874-2140.
