William Edward Stone Jr., of Pine Apple, passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2015, at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery.
Eddie, or “Eddie Jr.,” as he was called by his extensive family, was born Aug. 12, 1930, in Pine Apple to the late William Edward and Marie Steen Stone.
Eddie graduated from Moore Academy in Pine Apple in 1948 and from A.P.I., now Auburn University, with a B.S. in agriculture in 1951.
He served his country in the United States Air Force and returned to Wilcox County in 1954 to operate his father-in-law’s cattle and timber business.
Eddie was a member of numerous civic and Christian organizations. He was a member and deacon of Friendship Baptist Church, where he was a charter member of the Christian Brotherhood in 1957, an organization he enjoyed until his death. He was also a director at Camden National Bank for 38 years.
On July 2, 1952, Eddie married Marileta Powell of Ackerville. They were blessed with two daughters, Debra (Alex) Whatley of Opelika and Kathy (Billy) Perryman of Ackerville. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, Libby, Edward (Elizabeth), Mary Kathryn and Walter Whatley and Stover and Calvin (Samara) Perryman.
During the past three years, Eddie and Marileta were blessed with three great-granddaughters, Kate, Anne Stephens and Margaret, whom they adored. He also leaves four siblings, Olivia Dale, Alvin (Dot) Stone, Marcella (Harry) Anderson and Melvyn (Glenda) Stone.
He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, John Laurie Dale Jr.
Funeral services will be Friday, July 31, 2015, in the chapel of Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home in Selma at 11 a.m.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in New Live Oak Cemetery. The family will also receive guests at their home.

Pallbearers will be Stover and Calvin Perryman, Edward and Walter Whatley, Christopher, Jordan and Colby Stone and John Alan Olinger.
