The Morgan Academy baseball team saw its season come to an end Thursday in two losses to Bessemer Academy in the second round of the Alabama Independent School Association playoffs.

The Senators (17-12) lost game one 10-5 and fell 8-1 in game two to be eliminated from the postseason. Morgan head coach Jeremy Carter said his team made too many mistakes to have a chance to win.

“Bessemer hits the ball well and they were fundamentally sound,” Carter said. “They didn’t make the mistakes and errors we did. We made too many errors for two games.”

Carter said that Jackson Henderson, Woodham Kemmer and Bishop Price had great days at the plate, but in the end too many mistakes ended up dooming the Senators.  Morgan had five errors in game one alone, but Carter said the losses shouldn’t put a damper on what the team accomplished this year.

“They hadn’t been [that far] in over six years or right at six years,” Carter said. “To fight and battle the way they did and to put the wins and make it that far, I’m very proud of them.”
