Dear Editor,

Good things keep happening in Selma.

On March 7 and 8, over 80,000 people walked across the Edmund Pettus Bridge, which spans the Alabama River. This Jubilee celebration was to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Voting Rights movement to the Capitol.

On March 19 and 20, we celebrated our 40th spring Pilgrimage with a tour of homes, churches, museums, etc. We’ve had our annual Alabama River Chili Cookoff on historic Water Avenue.

On April 18, the CEO of Edgar Cayce’s Association for Research and Enlightenment, Kevin Todeshi, will present a program on the Akashic Records. This should be a mind expanding and entertaining program.

The weekend of April 23 through 26, Selma will be the scene of the reenactment of the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Selma, one of the last major battles of the Civil War. History keeps happening in Selma. What a wonderful city.

We have very few days in winter with snow and certainly never any more than three or four inches. To be honest, we can be pretty humid in the summer, but we have lots of air conditioners. It’s a great place to live and I ought to know. I’ve called it home for 96 years.
