The Morgan Academy Lady Senators have gone from winless to the Elite Eight.

Kendall Veach scored 33 points to lead the Senators to a 56-48 victory over Pike Liberal Arts in the first round of the Class 3A, region 2 tournament Thursday at Fort Dale Academy. The win not only moved Morgan (7-14) to the semifinals of the regional tournament, but also clinched the Senators a spot in the AISA Elite Eight, which will be played next week at Huntingdon College in Montgomery.

Anna Gayle Hubbard scored nine points for the Senators and Emily Sherrer scored eight more.

The Senators will take on the Autauga Academy and Monroe Academy winner Friday.

 

Fort Dale 52, Morgan Academy 29 (Boys)

Morgan Academy picked a terrible time for one of its worst shooting performances of the season.

The Senators’ boys saw their season end Thursday in a 52-29 loss to Fort Dale Academy in the first round of the class 3A, region 2 tournament. The game was played at Fort Dale, who was predetermined as the tournament host before the year started.

Morgan (8-15) made only seven field goals the entire game and was unable to rebound from a 27-15 halftime deficit. The Senators scored only four points in the second quarter, five in the third, and nine in the fourth.

John Ross Bone scored seven points to lead the Senators. Traylor Thomas led Fort Dale with 16 points.
