Morgan Academy fell just short of a state volleyball championship last season, falling in the AISA Class 2A Finals to Macon East.

As summer break is winding down in Dallas County, volleyball season continues to draw closer, and the Lady Senators are hoping for another successful season.

Morgan Academy will attend a camp at the University of Alabama at Birmingham later this month. The junior varsity will participate from July 21 to July 23 and the varsity will participate from July 28 through July 31.

Morgan Academy head coach Jennifer Moore says the team will look a lot different next season after graduating five seniors.

“We are kind of rebuilding this year. We graduated five seniors, but I have a lot coming up that are very good, very athletic,” Moore said. “At camp we are just going to try to build some teamwork and learn how to work together with a different group.”

Along with new faces, Moore says some players are changing positions on her varsity squad.

“I’ve got a few girls that are switching positions,” Moore said. “Just trying to get them used to this position. (We are) re-figuring things for varsity.”

Although the varsity will have fresh faces on the floor, the junior varsity will look a lot like it did last year. Moore is excited about the rare chance to return experienced players on her junior varsity squad.

“Junior varsity should be pretty good this year. I’ve got a lot coming back that played last year that know the game now so that will help,” Moore said. “Usually I have to start over with junior varsity each year and this year I’m not having to. (I’m) just getting them ready to work together and going to a new offense.”

The Senators will play a scrimmage game against Meadowview Christian August 6.
