Thomas Foster Barfield, Jr., 93, went to be with the Lord on December 19, 2012.  A memorial service will be held for family and friends on Sunday, December 30, 2012 at his residence 24478 Bay Forest Drive, Foley, Alabama at 6 p.m.  The Reverend Charles W. Jones of Selma officiating.

Thomas Barfield, Jr. was born in Dothan, Alabama on January 8, 1919 to Thomas Foster & Sally Murphy James Barfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son Thomas Foster Barfield, III (Sandra Stoddard Barfield).

Survivors include his daughter Edna Core & her husband Charles of Abilene, Texas; granddaughter Kristen Jones & her husband Woodruff R. Jones and their 2 sons William Foster & Jude Thomas of Selma and granddaughter Gillian Core of New York, NY.

A former violinist with the Montgomery Symphony Orchestra, Tom served in the Army in the Pacific in World War II as 1st Lieutenant and later graduated from the University of Alabama. He had a CPA firm in Selma where he practiced for 40 years. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S.

He volunteered as a counselor with SCORE and taught English to the Hispanic community during his time in Foley.

A sweet violin will welcome this gentle soul to heaven where he longed to be.
