The Morgan Academy Senators football team is set to hit the road on Friday for a battle of unbeatens.

The Senators (3-0, 1-0 AISA Class 3A Region 2) will travel to Tuscaloosa to face the Tuscaloosa Academy Knights (3-0, 3-0 AISA Class 3A Region 1) Friday at 7 p.m.

Senators head football coach Bob Taylor said the Knights present the toughest challenge Morgan has faced so far.

“They’re probably one of the best teams we’ll play this year,” Taylor said. “They are a wing-T run team first. They throw it when they want to and it’s generally for a touchdown when they do throw it. They’re very good and fast defensively. They just play extremely hard and are very well coached.”

Taylor said the Senators have been focusing on option reads in practice to prepare for the Knights’ offense.

“We’re just trying to make sure that we go thorough our read progressions the way we need to and follow what they’re doing,” Taylor said. “Most wing-T teams will give reads on how they’re going to run the football and what they’re going to do and how they’re going to do it. You just have to figure out who’s going to get it because it’s very deceptive.”

Taylor added the Senators will have to be sound on both sides of the football in order to have a chance to win.

“Offensively, we’ve got to be able to control the ball and keep them off the field and hope we kind of wear them down a little bit,” Taylor said. “On defense, we’ve got to be able to tackle and create some turnovers like we did last week.”
