One of the key players in the Morgan Academy Lady Senators’ two wins earlier this week, Lauren Yeldell is the female athlete of the week.

Yeldell, a senior, had 37 total assists in the Lady Senators’ last two games, including a 3-2 win over Southern Academy on Monday and a 3-0 win over Sumter Academy on Tuesday.

As Morgan’s setter on the court, Yeldell has also been instrumental in the team moving to a record of 12-5 on the season and a no. 6 ranking in the Alabama Independent School Association state volleyball rankings.

“She’s one of our captains and she’s our only setter right now because we run a 5-1 offense,” said Jennifer Moore, head volleyball coach of Morgan Academy. “She’s the setter on the floor, so she’s kind of like our quarterback. We can’t run our offense without a setter and she does a fantastic job.”

Moore added that Yeldell is always a positive force on the team.

“She’s a good role model for the other girls on the team because she’s always trying to encourage her other teammates,” Moore said.
