The Wallace Community College men’s basketball team again added to its numbers Thursday, signing two more players to its 2011 class.

Patriot head coach Ronald Lane said the two signees, Jamie King and Frederick Turner, each bring a different dynamic to the game that will help the entire team succeed.

“Fred is a great outside shooter and he will give us a lot of help at the guard position,” he said. “That will open up the inside for our big guys like Jamie to score as well.”

King, who is originally from Selma, is transferring to Wallace from Southern Union Community College. Coming home, he said, was very important to him.

‘I’m excited about coming here and I just want to play my role,” he said. “I know I’ll be able to grow here and I’ll be close to my family. I wanted to be close to home.”

Turner, who lettered at Wilcox Central, said he is focused on improving every day.

“I want to come in and be the best player I can be,” he said. “If I do that, I also know I’ll be a better person in life.”

Turner, like King, said the lure to play close to home and the ability to grow as a player, were both major draws for him.

“They gave me the best offer and I felt like I can do all the things I need to do here to be a D-I player,” he said. “I’m also excited about being close to my family so they can come and watch.”
