If you are a woman and you’ve been feeling alone lately and wanting fellowship, one local Christian group wants you to know it’s here for you and has solutions.

FINE Sister Ministries, or Females Involved In Nurturing Each (sister), will host its first women’s conference titled, “No Longer Bound,” Saturday, Oct. 29 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at New Beginnings Christian Center, to inspire and inform women of their identities in Christ.

Spearheaded by FINE ministry director Bernadine Rembert, the event plans to show women they are not only equal to men in God’s eyes, but special too.

“My husband, Bishop Joseph Rembert, always teaches that female subordination was a part of the curse for disobedience to God in the Garden of Eden,” Rembert said. “Christ came to lift us from the penalty, presence and power of sin; we’re children of the King. We need to do our best so God will be our rewarder. Life can at times pull you down (so) we want to be there for each other.”

Rembert said though many cultures still consider women to be unequal to men, the Bible says otherwise.

“Galations 3:28 states, ‘there is neither Jew or Greek, there is neither slave or free, there is neither male or female for you are all one in Christ,’” Rembert said.

“This conference will hopefully inform the attendees of the awesome love that God has for men and women equally; through hard work … and dedication, we believe whatever you do, if you do it in the best of your ability — putting God first … you’ll be successful.”

The conference will include a continental breakfast, a discussion panel featuring guest ministers from Mobile, Greenville, Montgomery, Hayneville and Uniontown, a worship service and a special tribute to former Selma city educator the late Gayla Okeke, who Rembert said was an inspiration to many.

“Mrs. Okeke was a shining example of what the phenomenal woman really is,” Rembert said.

“Although she has passed nine years ago, her life produced a legacy worth recalling.”

Rembert expects Saturday’s event to be a success.

“It will be very uplifting and inspirational,” Rembert said.

“I hope this will let people know we are here for them … there is info out there to get help and people you can turn to, no matter the struggle.”
