HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) — Police say the gun used in a deadly shooting rampage at an Alabama university was bought two decades earlier by the husband of the suspect, who denied gunning down her colleagues.

The testimony from Huntsville police came Tuesday in a preliminary hearing for Amy Bishop, a fired biology professor charged with capital murder in the deaths of three professors.

The judge ordered her held without bond and sent the case to a grand jury.

Huntsville investigator Charlie Gray testified that a man in New Hampshire has told agents he bought the gun for Bishop’s husband, James Anderson, in 1989. He said Anderson wanted it because of problems with a neighbor.

He said Bishop, in a taped interview, denied shooting anyone.
