SELMA — Residents along Dallas County Road 30 soon will see lower speed limits in their neighborhoods.

The Dallas County Commission voted unanimously Monday to reduce speed limits at various points along the county thoroughfare.

Dallas County engineer George “Coosa” Jones recommended the changes based on a recent site inspection by the Alabama Department of Transportation.

The changes include:

Lower the speed limit from 45 mph to 30 mph at Alabama 41 intersection westerly for about 1,800 linear feet or 0.33 of a mile.

Lower the speed limit to 25 mph at the intersection and approaches of CR 30 and CR 138 for about 1,481 linear feet westerly, or 0.28 of a mile, and 1,259 linear feet easterly or 0.24 of a mile.

Lower the speed limit to 25 mph at the intersection and approaches of CR 30, CR 55 and CR 134 for about 1,500 linear feet or 0.28 of a mile each way.

District 1 Commissioner Connel Towns said he had no problem with the changes in his district on the county road.

“I’m fine with it as long as we make the community aware of the different changes,” he said.
