Reid Cain will not see re-election to the Selma City Council.

The Ward 2 councilman said Saturday he&8217;s looking at other opportunities.

Cain declined to be specific about his plans.

He has served one term on the council. Cain is the first city council member not to seek re-election. Only Cecil Williams, who represents Ward 1, has not made public his intentions.

However, the qualifying deadline for municipal elections begins July 1 after the mayor publishes the election notice for the Aug. 26 election.

Cain looked back over the last 3 1/2 years.

Often times, Cain took an opposite position to the mayor. He is known for his verbal battles with other council members, including Johnnie Leashore, Bennie Ruth Crenshaw and Jannie Venter.

He still faces misdemeanor charges stemming from an incident last September outside council chambers at City Hall.

Cain presented a laundry list of issues and improvements he wanted to support, but was voted down by a majority of the council.

Cain said he&8217;s seeking a leader who will be open and honest about city matters and who will communicate and listen to everyone.
