Local nonprofit SABRA Sanctuary will host its annual Charity Dinner and Auction Thursday night at the George P. Evans Reception Center beginning at 6 p.m.

According to SABRA Sanctuary Board Chairwoman Bobbi Talbot, the event will feature both a live and silent auction, raffle items and food and drink.

Tickets for the event are $25 and can be picked up at SABRA Sanctuary or purchased at the door the night of the event.

Social hour begins at 6 p.m., giving attendees the opportunity to peruse the offerings and take part in the silent auction, and the live auction kicks off at 7:30 p.m.

“We have a lot of neat things this year,” Talbot said. We look forward to people coming out.”

All of the proceeds from Thursday night’s event go toward helping victims of domestic and sexual abuse.

“We do a myriad of things,” Talbot said, noting that the organization assists in providing those in need with shelter, clothing and household items, bus tickets and more.

Talbot said 300 people usually turnout for the event, raising between $9,000 and $15,000 annually, and the organization moved this year’s date up in a bid to attract more attendees – last year’s event was held during Spring Break, which Talbot said had an adverse impact on turnout.

“This event plays a big part in our funding,” Talbot said. “We have to match grants that we receive, so this is our major fundraiser of the year. We thrive on this one event.”

Talbot noted that a wealth of sponsors have signed on to this year’s event, including Bush Hog, International Paper, The Selma Times-Journal, Bama Budweiser, Selcom, Children’s Dentistry and more, and that 30 tables are available, with a handful open for general admission attendees.

SABRA Sanctuary serves six counties, including Dallas, Perry, Wilcox, Marengo, Greene and Sumter.
