The Selma Rotary Club showed their appreciation for local heroes Monday afternoon with a First Responders Lunch held at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church.

First Responders from the Selma Police Department (SPD), Dallas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO), Selma Fire Department and Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) were some of the agencies who stopped by Cornerstone on Monday to grab some barbeque, sides and desserts provided by the Rotarians.

Several members of the Selma Rotary Club expressed their satisfaction with the way the event came together.

Amelia Oliver, the Selma Rotary Club’s Chairperson of Service Projects, was happy all of the first responders came in to get lunch.

“I think they appreciate what we did to show appreciation for what they do every day,” she said. “I think there’s been a wonderful turnout.”

Rotarian Catesby Jones declared the event a success, adding that the First Responders Lunch would likely become a yearly addition to the Rotary Club’s repertoire of community service projects.

The Rotarians were set up at Cornerstone until 2 p.m. Monday making sure as many first responders as possible were thanked with a plate of food.

“It’s a blessing that we have people with a passion to take care of others,” said Rotary Club President James Steele. “This is excellent. We’re going to try to make this an annual event, so they’ll know on a certain day that they can come and we’ll take care of them.”

Sponsors for the Rotary Club First Responders Luncheon were: Lannie’s Bar-B-Q, Hancock’s Country Bar-B-Q, Mark Woodson of KFC, Vaughan Regional Medical Center, Lighthouse Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Neely Charter Services and First Cahaba Bank.
