Basic right-Register to vote this upcoming election

National Voter Registration Day was recognized on Tuesday.

The national holiday celebrating our democracy was first observed in 2012 and has been growing in popularity since then.

The holiday has been endorsed by the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASED), the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) and the National Association of Election Officials.

One of the biggest problems in voting is potential voters missing the registration.

Thanks to voter registration drives held by Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill and the Delta Pi Lambda, people have no excuse to not be registered to vote and to exercise their basic rights.

On Wednesday, Merrill’s voter registration drive will go to Dallas County where it will be set up at the E.M. Brown Community Center in Minter at 10 a.m.

There is no excuse to not be registered to vote. With all the opportunities to get us registered, it should be taken advantage of this opportunity. Voting is a right that all of us should exercise
