It’s once again the time of year for Sturdivant Hall’s Annual BBQ on the Green.

Each September, the board members of the historic antebellum home and museum throw a shindig on the lawn of Sturdivant Hall to raise money for the maintenance and upkeep of the building and its grounds.

Sturdivant Hall’s Annual BBQ on the Green will be held next Thursday, Sept. 26 at 6 p.m.

According to Sturdivant Hall Board Member Patti Currey, BBQ on the Green is always a big hit for Sturdivant Hall.

“It’s always a really big event,” said Currey. “It really brings people together.”

According to Currey, the event has been going on, “as long as anyone can remember”.

“We sort of stopped counting,” she said.

According to Currey, the event has seen as many as 500 people in attendance.

Currey says that those planning to attend can look forward to barbecue with all the expected sides, desserts and drinks.

“There’ll be good food, fellowship and the grounds are just beautiful,” said Currey. “Sturdivant Hall really is the perfect place for an event.”

Currey added that the event wouldn’t be possible without the effort given by the board members.

“It really takes effort and planning from everyone to make this thing work,” she said.

Currey also added how crucial the corporate sponsors are in making the BBQ happen.

Peak Insurance, First Cahawba Bank, Children’s Destiny, Henry Brick, Sam Kirkpatrick of Mayfair Advisory Group, Rountree Electric Supply, The Frazer Group, Gloria Sims/ReMax of Gulf Shores, Trustmark Bank, Dallas Air and Heating, Vaughan Regional Medical Center, International Paper, Talton Communications, Alabama Power, Hobbs and Hain Attorneys at Law, Tucker Dentistry, Grindle Tire, Buchanan Timber and Dave’s Market are this year’s sponsors.
