Members of Woodmen Life, Selma Chapter 3, stopped by the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) Thursday to contribute a donation to the agency to fund Project Lifesaver.

Project Lifesaver outfits those with autism, dementia and other cognitive disorders with tracking bracelets so that they may be easily located in the event they wander away from home.

According to Dallas County Sheriff Mike Granthum, the $750 check made by the organization will allow the sheriff’s department to provide tracking bracelets to at least six, possibly more, individuals.

Woodmen Life Community Outreach Advisor Ashley Pruitt said that Woodmen Life, Selma Chapter 3 Treasurer Buddy Wiltsie approached Granthum and asked what they needed.

Granthum was quick to reply, “Bracelets for Project Life Saver.”

“[Project Lifesaver] works,” said Granthum. “It’s not a waste of money. It’s not a waste of time. It benefits everybody.”

Granthum testified to the effectiveness of the program, stating how the DCSO was recently able to find a man who wandered 4.5 miles from home in only 30 minutes.

“Before Project Lifesaver, these searches were really primitive,” said Granthum. “Sometimes it could take us hours, and we don’t really have hours especially in heat like we’ve got right now.”

Granthum was quick to praise Woodmen Life for their donation Thursday morning.

“The way Woodmen life treats us… it’s more like a relationship than a partnership,” said Granthum. “This isn’t the first time, either. They keep coming back to help us out.”
