A Selma resident was arraigned Monday for murdering his brother over the weekend.

According to Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson and the Selma Police Department, Edward Sanders, 50, shot and killed his older brother, L.C. Sanders, on the block of 2330 Old Montgomery Highway around 9 p.m. Saturday night.

Edward Sanders was arraigned in the Dallas County Courtroom. Dallas County District Court Judge Bob Armstrong set the bond at $100,000 because he didn’t consider Sanders as a danger to the community.

Jackson said the incident is allegedly over Edward Sanders’ girlfriend.

SPD officers testified in court that L.C. Sanders, 57, was found lying on the kitchen floor with a knife and gun wound when officers arrived to the scene.  Dallas County Coroner Alan Dailey pronounced Sanders dead on the scene. Edward Sanders was still at the scene of the crime because they lived together.

A preliminary hearing is set for Aug. 6 at 1:30 p.m.
