A new class of Alabama correctional officers are on their way to new careers after graduating from the Alabama Corrections Academy on Thursday morning.

Cheers and applause filled the Alabama Criminal Justice Training Center Auditorium as the class of 2019-01 Received their certificates from Commissioner Jefferson Dunn, who also served as the ceremony’s commencement speaker.

Before the graduates received their certificates, Director Elliot Sanders delivered the opening remarks and commended the class of 2019-01 on their growth during their time at the academy.

Each graduate has spent the last 12 months training and practicing professionalism, integrity and accountability, traits referenced in Dunn’s commencement address.

“Today you’re going to embark on a journey that promises to be one of the most exciting and rewarding journeys you get to be a part of,” said Dunn.

After Dunn delivered the commencement address, the 2019-01 class leaders were recognized including, President and Cadence Caller Patrice Blackmon, Vice President Rodney Colvin, Secretary Chealse Reese, Chaplain Talisha Gadsden and Guidon Bearer Shundrika Hollie.

After the class leaders were recognized, Blackmon delivered the Class President’s address, thanking all of the academy staff and instructors for valuable lessons and guidance through the 12-week training program.

“Let us all be proud of what we have achieved and let this achievement be a stepping stone for greater accomplishments,” she said.
