Dallas County District Court Judge Bob Armstrong found probable cause for a Keith High School student charged with murder at a preliminary hearing Tuesday at the Dallas County Courthouse.

Quashawn Stallworth, 17, was arrested on March 7 by the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO)  and charged with the murder of Shalexis Ellis, 23.

Stallworth’s bond was initially set at $1 million on March 7 and Armstrong kept the bond at $1 million five days later. Stallworth remains in the Dallas County Jail.

According to Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson, Armstrong turned the case over to the Dallas County Grand Jury.

DSCO Sgt. John Treherne said Ellis was Stallworth’s girlfriend and the two were living with Stallworth and his mother on County Road 895 in Orrville. They are also parents of a two-month-old child.

Treherne said evidence showed that Stallworth and Ellis were in the same room. He was in possession of a 9-mm handgun, fired a round and shot Ellis in the head, according to the DCSO report.

“It’s very tragic for her to lose her life at such a young age,” Jackson said.
