Morgan Academy pounds Success Unlimited

Top-ranked Morgan Academy made a successful return to its home field Tuesday night.

Brayton Brown homered as the Senators cruised to a 13-1 rout over Success Unlimited. The game was called after three innings because of the state’s 12-run mercy rule.

Morgan Academy coach Stephen Clements remains humble over the Senators’ 16-0 start and number one ranking in AISA.

“We’re just playing one game at a time,” Clements said. “We’re taking it one pitch at a time. We’re 2-0 in our Area, but that’s not good enough. We still have some good teams in our Area to play that are well coached.”

Morgan Academy jumped out a 4-0 first inning lead and never looked back.  Joseph Estes hit a two-run single, Xavier Green added an RBI single and Gunnar Henderson’s RBI groundout produced the Senators’ first inning runs.

The Senators scored nine runs in the second inning for their final at-bat of the night. Brown blasted a three-run homer, a 343-foot blast over the left field wall. David Ducote hit a two-run triple, while Milam Turner delivered a two-run single. Henderson had an RBI double, while Estes added an RBI single.

Brown said the Senators focus on the game, not their undefeated record. Morgan Academy won the Gulf Shores Tournament last week.

“We don’t think about being unbeaten,” Brown said. “We just come out and play ball.”

Matthew Davis earned the victory, allowing only a run on just two hits.

Success Unlimited scored its only run in the second on Micah Morris’ RBI walk.

Desmond Adam was the losing pitcher for Success Unlimited, but he was replaced in the second inning.

Morgan Academy travels to Wilcox on Thursday.
