William Waheed previewed his documentary “Doyle,” about Ernest Doyle, a member of the “Courageous Eight,” at the Selma-Dallas County Public Library.

After its final preview, Waheed plans to take the film nationwide.

The film relies on archived footage of Doyle and family members to tell the story of how he became involved in the Voting Rights Movement.

“We want to make sure we dignify this man’s life,” Waheed said.

Doyle’s daughter, Carolyn King, herself a Voting Rights Congressional Gold Medalist, was on hand to view the documentary, which included footage of her.

Doyle led the local struggle for nearly 20 years before the Voting Rights March of 1965  as a member of the Dallas County Voters League and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).

“Mr. Doyle overcame devastating obstacles and unselfishly gave to the community with hopes and promise of a better life for all,” Williams said.
